The 2015 Ford F-150s are not going to be released until later this year. With new features and innovations, anticipation is even greater this year for the legendary Ford truck than in years past.
Much of the added buzz surrounding this year's model stems from Ford making significant changes to the body of the F-150. Traditional steel has been replaced by a military-grade aluminum alloy throughout the body. The frame of the vehicle is still made with high strength steel, however.
This innovation has led to a large weight reduction--by as much as 700 pounds--in Ford's flagship vehicle. Cutting that amount of weight from from the F-150 promises to increase fuel efficiency substantially.
A major alteration involving the production of the best selling vehicle of the last 32 years and best selling pickup truck of the last 43 has many people interested in the impact of the changes. While the new model is not available to the public yet, Ford has been field testing six aluminum F-150 prototypes since 2011. Reports on the prototypes' durability and performance have been positive.
